For the fundraising of our project we have decided to hold a pub quiz to help raise money. As I work at the Open House pub in Brighton during term time, I thought this would be perfect location to hold a pub quiz. Another one of my colleagues held a pub quiz for his Architecture year group, which was very successful, and raised loads of money.
We would charge customers £2 each to participate in the quiz, and ask media related questions, as we’d expect the majority of participators to be fellow media students. Not only would this be a fantastic way to raise some extra money for our project but it would be a great means of raising awareness around our film, and potentially encouraging more people to back our project. We need all the help we can get due to the fact we are such a small group, having extra hands on board to help during filming etc would be very positive.
We have also created a Kickstarter page, as another attempt at raising money, where we accept donations between £5-£100. The target for our Kickstarter page is £700. As the producer Nelly has completed a budget for our project, and the minimum amount of money we’ll be spending is £700. This takes thing into consideration such as travel expenses, craft services for our actors and crew, accommodation for our actors, props and costume and finally, marketing for the exhibition of our final project in May where our film will be screened.
During the shooting of our pilot we got a few screenshots of our actor Gabriel Owen, that we felt were very atmospheric and would work well as a photo to promote our short film on Kickstarter. Below is three of the photo’s we liked from the shoot:
Gabriel looks really distressed in the photo’s which we felt added a strong sense of what the film is about – the contemplation of whether or not life is worth living. We felt it was especially important to have an excellent actor in our film as it is such a short film with an intense and dark storyline. We believe Gabriel has the perfect look and he’s a very dedicated actor and a pleasure to work with.

We managed to raise 62% of our budget in only 2 days of our Kickstarter campaign being live. This was such a fantastic response, we were amazed with everyones generosity, it’s really given us added confidence and the encouragement to produce a fantastic short film.
As a way of saying thank you to all of the people who have donated money towards our project we have decided to give everyone who pledges a little something in return:
If you pledge £5 or more you will get your name in the small print of the credits and a handwritten thank you card.

Budget Breakdown completed by the producer:
Meeting our target:
In the first 5 days of our Kickstarter page going live we had already met our target, and even exceeded it!
Then a few days later we had raised another £100! Which mean we had raised out target, plus another £200 which is amazing and a really positive thing as this means we can amend our budget and spend extra money on certain things. I feel that our film would really benefit from having more people involved, such as runners etc, with this extra money raised we can look into hiring a vehicle to transport more people on location for shooting.
